However, we recognize that some of you would like to see Kailash and the holy lakes but may be hampered by time restraints. For these pilgrims, we have designed a special package that cuts the whole journey down to 9 days by using helicopter transport between Nepalgunj and Simikot, and Hilsa.
Taking this version of the trip means that you can still enjoy the full Kailash and Lake Mansarovar experience in an unhurried manner. Laying in the peaceful and tranquil Trans-Himalayan landscapes of Tibet, Lake Mansarovar, and Mt Kailash await your visit.
We have been operating tours to Mount Kailash including the Helicopter tours from Simikot for over 2 decades, organizing everything for your comfort during this pilgrimage tour around the sacred Mount Kailash.
Starting from Kathmandu, flying to Nepalgunj and to Simikot and then a Helicopter ride to the border – Hilsa with incredible views along the way, the holy journey starts from Taklakot and continues to the holy Lake Mansarovar.
While visiting Lake Mansarovar, Hindu Yatris would be able to take a holy dip in the lake and perform a ceremonial Puja with a Hindu Guru or priest. This is quite a spectacle and mesmerizing to witness. For Hindu Yatris from far abroad, it is also common to take some of Lake Mansarovar’s water with you back home for family and friends.
Meals and accommodations during this incredible Helicopter tour to Mt Kailash are provided by Alpine Eco Trek and as this is a Holy tour in Kailash, only pure vegetarian meals will be served prepared by our skilled chefs.
The tour continues until we reach the Holy Mountain said to be the home of the Hindu main deity Shiva. The tour is not completed here as the custom is to travel on foot 53km clockwise around Mt Kailash.
This is known among Hindus as doing KORA, and many devotees feel the spirituality coming from the holy Himalaya as they walk around it. During this holy Kora around Mt Kailash, overnights are very basic and arranged by our team, and in the morning one of the most incredible sunrise views over Mt Kailash can be seen, naming that side of the holy Kailash officially as the Golden Face.
The sacred Kora around Mount Kailash is relatively easygoing with stunning Dolma la pass crossing, not to worry does less able on foot can always hire a pony or donkey ride Darchen to complete the holy Kora around Mt Kailash.
Altitude Sickness during the Journey
Altitude is a major factor in all of our Kailash tours. We often reach altitudes of over 5000m. This can have mild or severe effects on the body no matter what your level of health. Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping. The best way to prevent this is to stay extremely hydrated and conscious of how your body is functioning.
We also have rest days to help the body acclimatize. Diamox is a prescription altitude medication (consult your doctor) that can help prevent symptoms. We also carry oxygen tanks. Be sure each of you is traveling on your own risk. It’s recommended to have a file with your medical history on this type of trip with a recent medical report.
Physical Fitness
Although most of the trip will be done on vehicles and flights, it is important that clients be in relatively good health. The holy Kora around Kailash requires some demanding hiking and altitude can take a physical challenge on the body.
We suggest clients start an exercise routine prior to the trip that includes hiking or jogging for a least an hour 3-4 days a week. If you have any concerns about the physical demands of the trip feel free to contact us, please. If you have any chronic health problems please consult your doctor.
