Damodar Kunda Horse Riding
- Customize My Trip
Damodar Kunda lies in the Mustang region which is situated in the northern central part of Nepal, and at the top of the Kaligandaki River where the languages, culture, and traditions are similar to those of the Tibetan people. This area is considered one of the most interesting and picturesque places in Nepal. The whole area has an isolated and mystical feel to it, enchanting and inspiring visitors to this region. Mustang region is a very popular destination for horse riding holidays.
The Damodar Lake is situated three days’ walk northeast of the main Mustang trekking route & very close to the border with Tibet. Damodar Kunda located on a restricted upper mustang between Kagbeni and Muktinath which is famous for the Hindu religion, it is situated rain shadow are of the High Himalayas north of the Annapurna range. The maximum altitude of the Damodar Kund is just 4890meters and it is a cold and windy place. We also recommend you visit during the full moon of August every year because every year there is a big festival up there many pilgrimages Hindu and Buddhist visit full moon of August. Usually, you can visit from April to September every year. Festival time is great for visiting Damodar Kund. From Damodar Kund, the views are excellent. From some viewpoints a bit higher than the lakes, (just a short climb up some of the hills) you can see the Tibetan plateau and Damodar Himal to the north and the Annapurna Himalayan massive to the south.
