Ghorepani Trek Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is tremendously famous and one of the most popular treks in the Himalayan region of Annapurna foothills. Because of its beautiful mountains, landscapes, diverse cultures, and decent guest houses, the trek is the number one choice for nature lovers and adventure trekkers. Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is an altitude-free and scenic journey that suits anybody with a moderate level of fitness. Children, above 10 years will also enjoy the trek equally as their parents would do. Ghorepani Poonhill trek starts in the lake city of Pokhara after a scenic 200km drive or a 25-minute mountain flight from Kathmandu. Pokhara is a beautiful city with an amazing lake and caves, we can enjoy boating on the Phewa Lake. This lake city is also the starting point for some of the most famous treks in the Annapurna region.

Ghorepani Poonhill trekking continues on a private coach to Nayapul from where the trek really begins. Crossing the suspension bridge over the Modhi Khola River, we ascend through beautiful villages, and terrace farming lands enjoying the views of fishtail towering above us. We continue our trail and walk mostly through lush, peaceful and quiet woods to Ghorepani at 2800m. The next day we make an early hike to Poonhill (3210m) to see the breathtaking views of the mighty Annapurna ranges including Fishtail, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. Mount Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri are the over 8000 Meter Mountains in this region. The grand sunrise view from Poonhill will be another marvelous moment in this hike.

Ghorepani is a fascinating village with some decent tea houses and a beautiful rhododendron forest. The village is also the gateway to Annapurna Himalayas. The trail that leads to the north from the village is a wonderful trek to Jomsom Muktinath and to the east is a fascinating Annapurna base camp aka Annapurna sanctuary trek. We leave Ghorepani following the eastern trail to Tadapani and Ghandruk, both fantastic villages for stunning views of the Annapurna South and Fishtail.

Ghandruk is one of the largest Gurung villages on the lap of the Annapurna with its traditional houses, rich culture and picturesque setting below fishtail mountain. Walking down through the beautiful steps we make a loop at Birethanti and take a private coach drive from Nayapul to Pokhara. Or we can extend our trek for two more days walking through Pothana village to Dhampus village and then to Dhampus Phedi from where we have half an hour drive to Pokhara. Kathmandu to Poon Hill trek can also combine with two night three days wildlife safari in the tropical Chitwan National Park.

We take great pride in taking care of our guests

Family friendly Nepal tour and trek

Alpine Eco trek met our expectations and more on a 12 day trip to Nepal. I can particularly recommend them to travelers with children, we took our 11-year-old son with us and guide Ram and porter Dhansing made his time fun and memorable. On our trek, they happily played football, cricket, running races, volleyball and a tabletop game I do not know the name of Ram made sure everything ran smoothly, taking care of us, nothing was too much trouble. The trip was great value compared to UK based tours, Chitwan National Park very good, Kathmandu colorful and interesting, our 5-day trek to Ghorepani was fab, but particularly for our son getting to know Ram and Dhansing will be what we remember most. The tour was private so we were not in a large trekking group. we booked from the UK, emails were answered quickly and the tour exceeded our expectations. If we ever go back we would be sure to go with Alpine Eco Trek, maybe Annapurna base camp next time.
